A couple of online offerings recently launched in the
aged care space.
This is the site for the Alzheimer's Poetry Project (APP),
which was founded by Gary Glazner in 2004. APP aims to
mprove the quality of life of people living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia
through supporting them to recite well-known poetry and create original pieces. The site is full of
nformation including online resources.
Creativity Matters -- The Arts and Ageing Toolkit is designed for leaders and program staff in arts,
healthcare and ageing services organisations. It aims to increase the expertise of people who
direct existing community arts and ageing programs and give others the tools to take the first
step and keep going.
"WE GET DEFINED out of the system at a very early stage.
We are seen as incompetent. We get defined as other.
We are people things are done to. We are not people who
are participants in the process because we are seen as
becoming less and less competent as we age," said Eva
Cox, social commentator and adjunct Professor at the
University of Technology, Sydney.
