As a result, carers observed a significant improvement among
residents in falls risk, mobility, sleep patterns and social interaction.
The first of Bupa Bellarine's awards was for a program in
which resident needs are met by streaming the local Catholic
mass, live, into the home. The second, 'Play Day', is devoted
to fun and games, utilising play and humour to help increase
residents' sense of personal well-being and to maintain positive
relationships with each other.
Bupa is committed to providing residents with the very best
of care and the highest possible quality of life. "We rely on our
employees to deliver on this promise and support them to learn
and grow, with training and career advancement opportunities,
especially in clinical and leadership roles," says Bupa Aged Care
people director, David Payne.
"We know our employees derive great personal satisfaction
from making a difference in the lives of others, and as an
organisation we will do everything possible to enable this positive
interaction. We are very keen to encourage promotion from
within the company," Payne says.
For Bupa employees there are many job prospects that a global
company with Bupa's diversity of health and care businesses can
offer. Employees can choose roles from within the Australian aged
care business, spanning the corporate office and 64 homes, or
express an interest in working in other Bupa markets across the
world via the Bupa Talent Management Program.
A recent initiative, 'Golden Opportunities', encourages Bupa
people to gain experience in different roles or other homes to
expand their skills and career prospects. So far this year over
1,000 employees have completed a Bupa 'Golden Opportunity'.
Bupa also has a number of specific programs designed to
foster excellence in aged care nursing. One highly sought after
course is the Bupa Graduate Nurse Management Program. Now
in its fifth year it attracts exceptional registered nurses and so far
150 have joined Bupa.
In addition to the proactive leadership training offered by Bupa,
the nurses are given the opportunity to complete a Graduate
Certificate in Aged Care Management through Bupa's partnership
with the University of Queensland. This qualification fast tracks
young nurses into senior management positions with two
graduates of this program now running Bupa care homes. Demand
for this kind of opportunity is increasing with Bupa receiving 900
applications for the August 2014 intake. "This demonstrates not
